Board Games by the Bay is the name for a series of nationwide board games events in New Zealand.
New Zealand has always been a bit quiet when it comes to board game meet-ups and events. Where’s the place for Kiwi board gamers to get together and play games all day? We’re making it happen!
Board Games By The Bay was kicked off by David, Angela and Craig, the founding Seriously Board team, and grew from successful weekends in Auckland and Tauranga in 2011, then adding Hamilton in 2012, then to Palmerston North in 2013. In 2014 record numbers attended two weekends in Auckland and one in Hamilton, and in 2015 the new Seriously Board management team will be joined by able volunteers and familiar faces to bring you another three great events during the year. That’s three opportunities to come and say g’day, play some new games, and even more chances to walk away with great prizes.
Who is running Board Games By The Bay, and why?
Board Games by the Bay is run by some excellent volunteers, plus Nat and Dave — the same people behind Seriously Board. We enjoy playing games and want more people to get on board with the hobby of modern gaming. Just not enough people in New Zealand know about it!
I’ve never heard of “modern” board games. What are you talking about?
We’re not playing your grandma’s scrabble. Also known as Euro-games or German-style games, they “emphasize strategy, play down luck and conflict, lean towards economic rather than military themes, and usually keep all the players in the game until it ends.” (Wikipedia).
Who can I talk to about this?
Us! See the contact page for a billion lots of ways to get in touch.
I’m having a problem with buying tickets/checkout
Sorry to hear that! Please contact us through this link (or call 022 GAMES NZ) and we’ll get you sorted ASAP.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No, you don’t: we believe in creating as little waste as possible. We’ll have a list of all registered attendees at each venue. If you want to be sure, have your confirmation email loaded on your phone.
